24 May Thirteen teams capture 2016 Florida Cup championships, make National Cup XV plans
The 2016 Florida Cup concluded May 14-15 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton with 13 teams winning state championships. This was the 12th annual event of the Florida Cup.
The single-elimination tournament began in March with preliminary games. Three clubs won multiple age groups: FC Florida (U-14 girls and U-17 boys), ACYS Spirit United (U-15 boys and U-16 boys) and Kendall SC (U-12 girls and U-14 boys).
Champions of the U-13 through U-17 age groups advance directly to the National Cup XV Finals this summer in Colorado. The U-12 and U-18/19 winners earn entry to a National Cup XV Regional.
The National Cup XV Finals, which will be held July 22-25 at Aurora Sports Park in Aurora, Colo., is the culminating event of US Club Soccer’s cup-based national championship series that includes six Regional events and various state cups.
