03 Jun Keeping up with LaLiga Formation Methodology course in NorCal
About 270 coaches are attending the second-ever LaLiga Formation Methodology coaching education course, June 3-5 at Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif.
LaLiga Formation Methodology courses outline the philosophy and methods used across LaLiga to train, develop and form some of the world’s top players. The 2½-day level 3 course includes theory and practical sessions both on and off the field. Topics include: 1) Methodological Foundations of Training, 2) Structure of Training, 3) Development of the Training Model, 4) Training Tactical Concepts, 5) Training Technique, 6) System Development and Strategy and 7) Training Physical Elements.
Friday, June 3:
Check-in began at 8:30 a.m., and participants were greeted with custom Skillzys credentials, Nike t-shirts and various course materials.
US Club Soccer Board of Directors Chairman Phil Wright and NorCal Premier Soccer Vice President (and US Club Soccer Board of Directors member) officially kicked off the event with opening statements inside the Las Positas College theater.
Afterwards, LaLiga methodology expert Gari Fullaondo presented an introductory classroom session on the “Development and Management of the Training Model.”
Next on the docket was lunch, followed by another classroom session. NorCal Premier Soccer secured tickets to the Copa America Centenario USMNT vs. Colombia game, so the attendees who purchased tickets through NorCal will enjoy the game, which begins at 6:30 p.m. (UPDATE: Colombia won 2-0.)
Tomorrow’s schedule has slightly changed, as we now have the opportunity to watch the Colombian national team train in the morning. As a result, the course resumes in the morning at 8 a.m., instead of the originally scheduled 8:30 a.m.
Saturday, June 4:
Attendees and course clinicians alike are back at it this morning. US Club Soccer CEO Kevin Payne opened the day with statements on Players First, including the genesis behind the initiative and how it can help develop world-class players. He also mentioned the tie-in to yesterday’s announcement about enhancing background screening and the implementation of Sideline Sports Doc for registered staff. Gari Fullaondo then took over for the day’s first classroom session.
After the morning classroom session, attendees watched the Colombian national team train – the day after defeating USA, 2-0. Then, LaLiga clinicians directed two field sessions, a classroom session and then another field session.

Sunday, June 5:
This is the final day of the LaLiga Formation Methodology course!
Today brings: three classroom sessions, two field sessions, Q&A with LaLiga ambassador Ismael Urzaiz and a certificate presentation. Participants also receive a Kimet Planning software license, which will help coaches implement periodization and training methods.
