17 Aug 2016 ECNL/id2 National Training Camp comes to a close
PORTLAND, Ore. | The 2016 ECNL/ id² National Training Camp, featuring about 100 top female players from across the country, was held July 28-Aug. 1. Sixteen players represented the id² Program, after being selected as standouts among id² Training Camps, Player Development Programs or other competitive events held during the previous id² age group cycle of 2001 girls birth years.
The roster of id² standouts featured girls born in 2001 with ties to 15 clubs and 10 states. ECNL’s selected participants were from 1998-2000 birth years. The groups were integrated into full camp activities, which included: training sessions, matches, attendance at the July 30 match between the Portland Thorns and Seattle Reign. U.S. Soccer staff was in attendance during the camp to scout for potential invitations to youth national team programming.
While most of camp activities were held at the University of Portland, the girls were treated to the renowned facilities of Nike World Headquarters on the final day for competition and a banquet.
For the id² side, the ECNL/ id² National Training Camp represents the final stage of the National Selection programming element for the id² age group cycle of girls born in 2001 and boys born in 2002. In February, US Club Soccer brought 18 top boys players to Spain to compete against academy teams of FC Barcelona, Valencia CF, Villarreal CF and RCD Espanyol.
The players incurred no costs to participate in the camp, as all costs including airfare, lodging, meals and training gear were covered by US Club Soccer and Nike.
