10 Nov Member Update: US Club Soccer adjusts age group terminology
Nov. 10, 2016
In an effort to reduce confusion caused the adoption of birth-year registration, US Club Soccer is relabeling its age group terminology.
Previously notated “Under-16” (or U-16) teams, for example, will now be referred to as “16-and-Under” (or 16-U). With the adjustment, it is more clear that – in this particular example – players in the aforementioned age group are 16 years old and younger.
Other youth soccer organizations are also relabeling age groups. U.S. Soccer’s birth-year registration mandate was first announced in September 2015, and US Club Soccer and other organizations implemented the mandate effective Aug. 1, 2016.
The new age group labels are reflected throughout usclubsoccer.org and will be fully reflected in US Club Soccer’s registration platform by tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.
