The interactions between parents and their children during the car ride home can encounter a variety of emotions. Charlie Slagle, CEO for Tampa Bay United and President Elect of the NSCAA, encourages parents not to comment on coaching decisions and similar – potentially divisive – topics, so an otherwise positive experience for the young athlete doesn’t turn negative.
Parents can ask questions like:
- Did you have fun?
- Did you try your best?
- Were you a good person out there?
Slagle pointed out that many children can take a 12-2 loss, have a snack and be ready for the next game.
