08 Dec Report: Positive Coaching Alliance training helps US Club Soccer coaches increase athlete retention, performance
A recent study of 4,500 youth and high school sports coaches reveals that those who received Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double-Goal Coach® training reported significantly higher athlete retention than did coaches without PCA training.
Researchers at Tufts, Cornell and Boston Universities earlier this year conducted the study for PCA, a national non-profit organization developing “Better Athletes, Better People” through youth and high school sports.
US Club Soccer, a PCA National Partner organization initiated through its Players First initiative, participated in the study by distributing the survey to more than 50,000 constituent coaches.
In the US Club Soccer sample and the full study, data also showed that the PCA Double-Goal Coach training had a positive effect on athlete experiences and performance.
“We’re very excited about these findings and appreciate our sport partners that made the survey possible,” said Tina Syer, PCA’s Chief Impact Officer. “The fact that PCA-trained coaches keeps kids coming back, performing better and enjoying their youth and high school sports experiences more means that PCA helps more youth gain the health benefits and exposure to life lessons and character-education that youth and high schools sports can afford.”
PCA’s Double-Goal Coach training is available both online and through live, interactive workshops conducted for youth sports organizations and schools. The full study is available for download on the Positive Coaching Alliance website.
