Charlie Slagle, President-Elect of the NSCAA and CEO of Tampa Bay United, discusses how soccer is an ideal sport for young athletes to start playing because it is a team sport.

The game is simple enough for young kids to understand and little equipment is needed. Since soccer is a team sport, a coach is able to teach the essentials of teamwork, sportsmanship, having fun and how to promote an encouraging team environment. Positive environments led by coaches who prioritize having fun will make these new youth players want to keep playing.
