03 Apr 2017 Mediterranean International Cup schedules released; id2 National Selection team gathers this week
The 2017 Mediterranean International Cup (MIC), to be held April 12-16 in Spain, revealed its schedules Monday morning, giving the US Club Soccer id² National Selection team a clear picture of its upcoming opponents.
Two weeks ago, the MIC placed the id² squad in Group G with Club Deportivo Aliron Futbol Base de Tegueste (Spain), Shangwen-Nama (China/Spain) and Hapoel Ramat Gan (Israel). Schedules, including game times, include:
- Wednesday, April 12: id2 National Selection vs. CDAFB Tegueste, 10 a.m. CET at Mont-Ras
- Thursday, April 13: id2 National Selection vs. Shangwen-Nama 2004, 11 a.m. CET at Calonge
- Thursday, April 13: id2 National Selection vs. Hapoel Ramat Gan, 5 p.m. CET at Calonge
- April 14-16: MIC Playoffs, TBD
NOTE: MIC games are played with 25-minute halves.
Prior to competing in the MIC, the id² National Selection team will begin its journey in New Jersey with a domestic camp, April 6-8. After an expected arrival in Barcelona on April 9, the team will transfer to the city of Girona for training sessions over the following two days. Finally, on April 11, the group moves on to Playa D’Aro for the MIC competition.
Consistent with US Club Soccer’s philosophy that identification and development should be free to players, there is no cost to players. The id² Program is an Olympic Development Program approved by the United States Olympic Committee and U.S. Soccer Federation. id² Boys Program director Gerry McKeown will lead the team in the id² Program’s eighth trip abroad.
