Playing multiple sports as a kid helped Leslie Osborne, former U.S. Soccer women’s national team player and current PCA National Advisory Board member, excel in soccer. She credits basketball, tennis and cross country with building muscle strength and mental toughness that she was able to translate into soccer success.

She also reaped the benefits of playing both individual and team sports, because the different mentalities taught her how to optimize performance. Osborne even attributes a lack of injuries during her youth to playing multiple sports, as she was less subject to overuse injury.
