09 Jun National Cup XVI kicks off tomorrow with West Regional action
DAVIS, Calif. | The 16th edition of US Club Soccer’s cup-based national championship series begins tomorrow, as the National Cup XVI West Regional takes place June 10-13 in Davis, Calif. More than 220 boys and girls teams in 11-U through 18/19-U age groups are set to compete at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Granite Regional Park.
(UPDATE: Recap available here.)
Last year’s West Regional was split between a boys weekend and a girls weekend, while this year’s event combines both due to facility expansion. On the boys side, only two clubs won multiple age groups: Atletico Santa Rosa (2001 and 2002 Super Groups) and Napa Sport Academy (2000 and 2001 Premier Groups). And during the following weekend of girls competition, Davis Legacy SC won three age groups (1998 Super Group, 1998 Premier Group and 2001 Super Group) and California Magic clinched two brackets (1999 Super Group and 2001 Premier Group). No other clubs won multiple age groups.
West Regional champions in 13-U through 18/19-U age groups (birth years: 2004s, 2003s, 2002s, 2001s, 2000s, 1998/99s) advance to the National Cup XVI Finals, where national championships will be awarded.
Participating teams should refer to previous emailed communications for pre-tournament instructions, as well as the West Regional web page, for important information about team check-in procedures, field maps, rules, scouting profiles (for 15-U and older), video services, etc.
