05 Jul Mid-Atlantic Regional serves as send-off to National Cup XVI Regionals; Finals less than three weeks away
SOMERSET, N.J. | Five up, five down. The National Cup XVI Regional slate officially came to a close late last week in Somerset, N.J., as 25 champions were awarded Mid-Atlantic Regional titles.
Five National Cup XVI Regionals were held across the country in June: West (Davis, Calif.), Midwest (Chicago), Northwest (Yakima, Wash.), Southeast (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Mid-Atlantic. Champions from those events and qualifying state cups among 13-U through 18/19-U boys and girls age groups have qualified for the National Cup XVI Finals, July 21-24 at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional was held at two facilities: PDA Soccer Complex and Morningside Farm. PDA secured four Regional championships, and GPS Massachusetts grabbed three.
“PDA is honored to host US Club Soccer’s National Cup XVI Mid-Atlantic Regional at its facilities; we were really happy with the high level of competition on display,” said Tom Anderson, PDA Club President. “We’d also like to congratulate all the champions and the four PDA teams that won Regional championships and wish them the best of luck as they compete for National Cup XVI Finals trophies in a couple weeks.”
“We are delighted that our teams put up a strong showing at the National Cup XVI Mid-Atlantic Regional with three teams coming away as champions,” said Peter Bradley, DOC of Global Premier Soccer. “We wish them every success, as they head towards the National Cup Finals.”
Eastern FC Rush clinched the 18/19-U Boys Premier Group after winning the 17-U Boys Premier Group title last year. Another familiar champion was the Mount Laurel United SC Magic, which followed up last year’s 17-U Girls Super Group championship with this year’s 18/19-U Girls Super Group title. STA Morris United NPL also was a repeat winner, having won this year’s 15-U Girls Super Group after last year’s 14-U Girls Super Group.
National Cup Mid-Atlantic Regional champions have fared well at the next level, as two National Cup XV Finals (2016) champions qualified via last year’s Mid-Atlantic Regional: Jackson Red Bulls (13-U Boys Premier Group) and Match Fit Academy FC ’00 Black (16-U Boys Super Group).
