GoalNation: Christian Lavers on ‘what’s right and what’s wrong’ in American youth soccer

Christian Lavers is not only the President of the ECNL, but also the Director of Coaching for FC Wisconsin, while continuing to assist US Club Soccer in technical matters. Additionally, Lavers has spent time in the professional ranks as an assistant coach with the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars.

GoalNation editor Diane Scavuzzo inquired about Lavers’ views of the strengths and weaknesses of youth soccer in America, and his ideas for further improvement and development.

“The youth game is the foundation for the future of every part of the game in the country,” Lavers said. “In the long term, a better youth experience — in all its forms — will increase the quality of the professional game, the quality of the national teams, the number of fans of the game, the resources invested in the game, and more.”
