Sonya Curry, the mother of two-time NBA MVP and champion, Stephen Curry, is a former volleyball player for Virginia Tech. After her career as a student-athlete, Sonya became a school administrator and still uses her experiences to inspire others and help further strengthen her community.
In this video, Sonya discusses the significance of the type of coach a youth athlete is constantly exposed to, and how imperative it is ensure their character and coaching style is the right fit for that particular child. Sonya mentions how the proper coach will “want the best for them as people and individuals and can see what is special about them.” The right coach will help child athletes see their potential and establish a healthy environment that encourages them to grow, both as a person and an athlete.
