Keeping up with Players First launch event at Nike World Headquarters

At long last, Players First has arrived. The US Club Soccer initiative intended to revolutionize the club soccer experience takes over Nike World Headquarters, Aug. 8-9 in Beaverton, Ore.

Among an exclusive group of the country’s top youth soccer leaders, the Players First launch event features engaging presentations by Players First partners, which are providing a suite of resources geared towards clubs, coaches, parents and players.

So, what is Players First?

Players First is a holistic club soccer experience for parents and players, which emphasizes the development of each individual to his or her full potential, and helps parents make better choices about where their children should play. Numerous Players First partnerships help advance the five founding pillars of the platform:

Sunday, Aug. 9:

IMG_4356 -  resizedThe final day of the Players First launch event included various presentations – both in the Bay Hill Room of the Tiger Woods Center and outside on the Ronaldo Fields.

Both LaLiga and Major League Soccer/French Football Federation led field sessions, while indoor presentations were given by: Beast Mode Soccer, FIFA 11+, Fit for 90, KYCK Registration, La Liga, MLS/FFF, Positive Coaching Alliance, Sideline Sports Doc, SportSessionPlanner and SoccerPrep. Christian Lavers, US Club Soccer’s Executive Vice President, also presented information about a US Club Soccer-created Sports Leadership Program.

Attendees enjoyed another day of being exposed to best-in-class resources and networking with like-minded club leaders around the country.

In his closing remarks, US Club Soccer CEO Kevin Payne challenged attendees to propel Players First back home. “We’re on a mission to change the sport,” Payne told the crowd. “In order to achieve our mission, we need a vision, courage, enthusiasm, resilience and a plan.”

Saturday, Aug. 8:

Players First finally came to the forefront of youth soccer today, as the two-day launch event officially began at 3 p.m. PT in the Tiger Woods Center of Nike World Headquarters. IMG_0203 - website The opening day featured classroom-like presentations by LaLiga and TopYa!, and a dynamic field session by LaLiga on the Ronaldo Field. Crossfire Oregon supplied a group of U-14 boys players to participate in the session, which was both informative and fun.

US Club Soccer’s Kevin Payne and LaLiga’s Fernando Sanz each officially signed the long-term technical partnership. The comprehensive partnership will help advance the Players First pillars of club development, coaching development and player development. Coordination opportunities include international coaching observation, engagement with id2 and PDP, and regional and national seminars.

The day concluded with a passionate keynote speech by Dr. Colleen Hacker. “Challenge the status quo,” Hacker told the group of soccer leaders. “Take risks. That’s what Players First is all about.”
