About Players First

Players First and LaLiga Advice have published a new video featuring 10 basic guidelines for inexperienced coaches, as well as a new Kimet Sport offensive system development exercise and a full-length training session.

The four-minute video is the latest product of Players First’s LaLiga Formation Methodology offering and is powered by fellow Players First partner, Kimet Sport. By advising coaches to implement the guidelines suggested in this video, both LaLiga and Kimet Sport continue their consistent support of the Players First pillars of Coaching Development, Player Development and Club Development.

The guidelines range from knowing how to motivate your players to encouraging creativity. They are delivered by the Sports Project Manager of LaLiga, Hugo Blanco, and described in-depth by LaLiga’s Technical and Methodological Advisor and Kimet Sport CEO, Gari Fullaondo, both of whom co-lead the LaLiga Formation Methodology courses and follow these philosophies in their international soccer projects.

Kimet Sport’s exclusive new offensive system development exercise is composed of two teams of eight players and allows each team to practice different attacking and defensive methods, such as quick, central attacks against the large goal, slower, more indirect attacks against the three smaller goals, and the necessary defensive styles to combat these offenses.

The exercise is most effective amongst 10- or 11-year-old players and helps players increase their abilities to observe patterns of play being developed throughout the game. It will also strengthen the athletes’ ability to develop the game model, analyze variables in the different areas of the field, utilize and adjust the patterns of play to gain control of the game, and generate offensive perception based on the zone of the field.

LaLiga Kimet Planning has also provided US Club Soccer members with a full-length training session. The comprehensive session requires a full team of 18 players and an entire field. It is divided into three basic sections: the warm up, main part and cool down. The five-phase warm up consists of running, stretching and four drills that will see the team break off into three groups of six. The main part features four exercises that focus on increasing abilities to interpret and control the play of the game in high-intensity situations and make necessary adaptations. It also emphasizes fundamentals and progressing up the field.
