South Central Regional kicks off National Cup XXI Regional slate

TULSA, Okla. (June 14, 2022) – The National Cup XXI South Central Regional, the summer’s first Regional event of the National Cup XXI tournament series, concluded Monday after four days of competition at Mohawk Sports Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In total, 15 teams representing 12 clubs were awarded Regional titles and qualification to next month’s National Cup XXI Finals in Colorado.

The fourth annual South Central Regional, which featured 86 teams across a handful of states in the region, offered a competitive cup-based environment for 13-U through 19-U boys and girls teams.

Three clubs made their presence known by winning a pair of divisions each: BVB International, St. Louis Scott Gallagher and Sting SC. Those and other clubs have made winning at the South Central Regional an annual tradition. Five clubs that won titles during last year’s event repeated the feat this past weekend.

Both U-13 champions – Oklahoma Celtic ’09 RL (boys) and Colorado Rush ’09 Academy (girls) – claimed their hardware in convincing fashion, shutting out every opponent they faced. Colorado Rush earned that title by knocking off Tulsa SC ’09 ECNL in penalty kicks.

The U-15 girls division was particularly thrilling, as St. Louis Scott Gallagher (MO) ’07 ECNL Green edged Fever United ’07 ECNL NTX Penn, 1-0, in the title game. Both teams entered that final game with two wins and a tie – both to defensively savvy Tulsa SC ’07 ECNL.
