CHARLESTON, S.C. (Feb. 11, 2026) – US Club Soccer will host a referee development course in Chula Vista, California, Feb. 12-15. This course is in conjunction with the id2 National Training Camp for the top 2012-born girls taking place Feb. 11-15 at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center. The id2 National Training Camp then welcomes 2012-born boys the following week for player identification and development programming.

To reduce barriers of entry and development, US Club Soccer is covering the cost for participating referees. The course includes fitness testing, classroom and field sessions, and personal evaluations. Participants will also referee games of the id2 National Training Camp attendees. Under the Players First philosophy, which focuses on holistic development, referee education is vital to proper player development and the progress of soccer in the United States.

This referee development course, hosted in collaboration with Cal South State Referee Association, will provide attending referees with lessons and feedback from distinguished referee mentors and coaches. Course administrators include David Guinn, former national referee and U.S. Soccer national coach; Israel Fernandez, former national referee and U.S. Soccer referee coach; Patrick Alles, U.S. Soccer referee coach; and Juan Guzman Jr., former U.S. Soccer and FIFA referee.

This is the fourth consecutive year that US Club Soccer has worked with a state referee association to provide complimentary referee education and training, having hosted courses the past three summers during the NPL Finals and National Cup Finals. It’s also evidence of the id2 Program expansion announced this past summer. The expansion embraces the Players First philosophy and aligns id2 with other developmental opportunities beyond just player identification and development, such as referee and coach development.
