CHULA VISTA, California (Feb. 23, 2026) – US Club Soccer hosted its id2 National Training Camp for top girls and boys players born in 2012, Feb. 11-15 and Feb. 18-22, respectively, in Chula Vista, CA. On the boys side, 102 players participated, representing 63 clubs and 25 states. For the 102 girls that competed, they hailed from 56 clubs and 22 states. Athletes were challenged on and off the field, competing in field sessions at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center and learning from various presentations in a classroom setting. The id2 National Training Camp featured an exciting new format with players placed in teams based on their region to compete amongst and against each other.
Players were invited to the id2 National Training Camp based on local and regional scouting at events like Player Development Programs (PDP); events within the NPL, ECNL Regional League and ECNL; targeted showcases; and more. The progression continues past the National Training Camp, as 35 boys and 35 girls will be selected for the id2 National Selection Camp based on their performances in the camps. The selection will take place in late April and more information will be announced in the coming weeks.
Above: Included in the new format of the id2 National Training Camp was the creation of id2 Spotlight Games, which shuffled players to new teams based on performance earlier in their respective weeks.
During the id2 National Training Camp, players were treated to instruction from a collection of the country’s best club coaches. Curriculum was designed by id2 head coaches Darel Russell (boys) and Hue Menzies (girls) in close collaboration with US Club Soccer technical director Ross Paule. Russell representing Heat Surf LV, and Menzies representing Florida Kraze Krush, were complemented by 15 coaches apiece. You can view the full list of coaches here (Girls / Boys). Players also attended classroom-style meetings amongst their team, individually with their coaches and as a full group. Full group sessions included mental skills training, led by Paule and Dr. Missy Price, US Club Soccer VP of Education & Development. Additionally, several U.S. Soccer personnel were on-site during both weeks to scout for invitations to future U.S. youth national team programming.
The id2 Program is a leader in player identification and development, as it provides opportunities for elite athletes to be identified, developed and scouted for inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s youth national team programming. The id2 Program is an Olympic Development Program approved by the United States Olympic Committee and the U.S. Soccer Federation. There is no cost for players to participate or be scouted, and all meals, lodging and gear are provided by US Club Soccer. This approach to eliminating barriers to entry helps ensure the best players are able to participate. The id2 Program was created in 2004, and today, has grown to be recognized as reserve teams for USYNT.
id2 Programming
Scouting / invitation process
The id2 Program is invitation-only. id2 directors lead scouting efforts through a multi-faceted process that includes scouting competitions themselves, receiving recommendations from Directors of Coaching, and consulting with a nationwide network of scouts and coaches.
id2 National Training Camps
id2 National Training Camps are five-day identification and development camps, in which players – 102 boys and 102 girls – participate in a multi-faceted experience of training sessions and games, as well as off-the-field presentations and discussions. id2 directors lead the camps alongside a collection of top club coaches from around the country. These camps include carefully curated itineraries, balancing on-field training and scrimmages, classroom presentations, nutrition and recovery. Players receive evaluations from their camp coaches to help continue their developmental journeys in their club environments.
id2 National Selection Camps
id2 National Selection Camps are the next progression in the id2 pathway, as 35 boys and 35 girls are invited to a six-day identification and development camp, following standout performances at the id2 National Training Camp. Similar in structure to id2 National Training Camps, id2 National Selection Camps represent the top players from a particular age group. As such, the competition, training environment and exposure opportunities are all elevated.
